Why is animation a good way to promote a construction product or service?
21 Degrees provides the knowledge and technology for homes and workplaces to harness their own sustainable energy.
Making good use of animation can explain a construction product or service in a way that standard videography simply cannot capture. It allows you to see and understand products or concepts from angles or perspectives that are otherwise impossible to film conventionally.
Building physics, for example, is a fundamental part of low energy and sustainable construction. Ideas like airtightness, low rates of heat loss, or ventilation are essentially invisible to the naked eye and therefore cannot be filmed in a way that a viewer can learn from.
Similarly, a lot of construction products are used within the fabric of buildings. It is impossible to see them in context and at work once they are installed and covered up, so there needs to be a different way of showing their function.
All of this is where animation comes in.
Case study: MVHR animation video for 21 Degrees
21 Degrees provides performance-led systems for low energy buildings. They offer a range of design services for low energy construction projects, including mechanical ventilation with heat recovery (MVHR) installations. Among their product offerings are solar panels, heat pumps and triple glazed windows and doors.
Regen Media’s role in the project
The team at 21 Degrees frequently field queries about MVHR – what it is, how it works and so on. They approached Regen Media to create a short explainer video highlighting why MVHR is used in low energy construction projects, and the benefits it offers.
Strategy
MVHR relies on the exchange of incoming and outgoing air from a building, where the extracted warm air is used to heat the colder incoming fresh air. All of this takes place within a heat exchanger, and is impossible to capture on film. A graphical representation was the only way to properly explain MVHR, so animation was chosen to get across complex information as simply and concisely as possible.
Challenges and solutions
Key to a successful animation is getting the script written and approved before any graphic or voiceover work begins. Regen Media worked closely with 21 Degrees to ensure the script covered all of the required information, so as to avoid any potential reworking later.
Once the script was finalised, we coordinated production of the voiceover and animation to deliver the final result.
Results
The video sells the benefits of MVHR with a simple explanation and in a visually engaging way. 21 Degrees use in it their knowledge base to answer beginner level questions and to move customers to the next level of the buying journey.
Using video to create engaging FAQ content for construction products
Animation videos are a great way to create content around frequently asked questions – especially where it is difficult to answer the question using other approaches.
“What is MVHR?” or “What are the benefits of MVHR?” are typical questions that the team at 21 Degrees is asked every day. There will be similar questions that you and your business have to deal with every day too.
Having a short but comprehensive animation to explain everything about a product is an engaging way to answer repeated questions. The video is a chance to showcase your expertise, deliver consistent explanations, and capture the interest of potential customers.
