How can video content improve education about sustainable buildings?
Video services for Coaction Passivhaus and low energy building training
Video is the ideal format for providing education on sustainable construction because it allows often complex subject matter to be explained in the most appropriate way. The combination of audio and visual elements can be refined to suit the topic under discussion, while also appealing to the broadest range of people and learning styles.
Sustainable construction is a wide-ranging area, covering everything from Passivhaus new-builds to deep retrofit using nature-based materials. As more projects adopt sustainable techniques and benchmarks, ensuring that people have adequate training is essential to avoiding poor quality outcomes.
On-demand educational material delivered in video format provides consistent training and messaging to the most number of people, helping to raise training standards when in-person sessions are constrained by time, resources or venue sizes.
Case study: video services for Coaction Passivhaus and low energy building training
Coaction Training CIC is an independent, not for profit organisation driving upskilling for low energy building in the construction industry. They deliver Passivhaus training that empowers designers, contractors, educators and wider stakeholders to drive positive change through the buildings they create.
Regen Media’s role in the project
There were two distinct aspects to Regen Media’s work with Coaction Training. First, we helped to edit and develop the training material for their online courses. We followed that up with the creation of a promotional video to showcase the training itself.
Strategy
The promotional video needed to convey the varied nature of the training available from Coaction Training. Planning for the project considered elements such as who to interview, good examples of the online training offering, and what other footage could help to tell the story of what the training offers.
Challenges and solutions
A video showcasing online training material cannot simply say that people engage with the training – it must convey engagement through the choice of shots. We therefore blended a mix of footage to create the finished video, combining interviews with some of the trainers, footage from a training facility where practical demonstrations take place, and examples of the online video content.
We also sought to use time as efficiently as possible, and scheduled interview filming with one participant so that we could capture footage for a separate project at the same time.
Results
The Coaction Training promotional video has been used widely to draw in more of the construction industry. Different lengths of the video were also created for use in social media and advertising campaigns.
Education about sustainable and low energy construction is more than formal training
This case study highlights how video production services can serve providers of formal training resources. Such training is delivered by industry experts, like those who are part of Coaction. But educating people about sustainable and low energy construction can take any form, and you don’t have to be producing a full suite of online courses.
Anybody can have a project or solution that might inspire interest in sustainable building, and give people the nudge they need to follow a route into the arena of low energy buildings. If you have spent time seeing something from concept to completion – be it the largest building or the smallest component – then your achievement warrants shouting about. Other people will want to learn from it.
With years of experience in the low energy and sustainable building sector, Regen Media knows how best to showcase your work through video content and production. Contact us today to learn more.
